This coming week we will be making balloon car racers in the class and collecting data on how well they do! You need to collect recycled material to create your car in the class! Balloons will be new but the body, wheels and decoration all have to be made from recycled materials. Look at the video below for ideas and remember we are making the cars in the class!! You need to go through the whole design process when making your car! Start collecting good trash that you can use for your car ...NOW!! Click on the above picture to take you to a site that will teach you how to make some paper airplanes. Choose TWO types of planes and make them using the same type of paper. Happy folding.
In the comment section below, state which airplanes you chose to make. Write a hypothesis stating which airplane will fly furthest and why. Tomorrow, we will fly these airplanes and using the same paper airplane spreadsheet from yesterday, find the means, medians, and ranges of your two new planes. Something cool from Ms. Choan: Check out the video below for information on the upcoming Nile Book Awards! Read 8 books, vote on 2. Press play for more information. Happy New Year! Here's what we have going on this week:
What We Did: Monday, 4 JAN - By F.F.So in the morning we started our new unit (How the world works) We were working on making paper airplanes for a start. We were in a group of people 3 and we started making small posters. On each posters it stood 1m,2m,3m,4m,5m,6m,7m,8m,9m and 10m.so you need 10 posters. You also need a meter stick so you can measure 1m between each poster. The posters are going to lined up on a straight line.
We have also been using spreadsheets to be able to count how far the plane can go. Steps how to use spreadsheets:
Example: 3+3+12=18 18/3=6 so the average of 3,3,12 is 6 Well done to 5N for having the least number of books out of the library! POPCORN PARTIES from the library
It’s that time of year again -- we’ll give popcorn to EVERY class that has returned all OVERDUE books byFriday, Nov 27th. This is true whether or not your class has a scheduled checkout time! (Please see the class posters or this post for more details.) This does not include teacher and TA books. Popcorn parties are an inducement to dig books out from under beds, and to let us know which books have been lost, so we can mark them as such. And to return a ton of books! If one of your students says they've looked and looked for a book, and just can't find it, please ask them to come talk to Ms. Ruth or Karen before Friday, Nov. 27th - we'll mark it missing, that will clear their record, and your class may still get popcorn! We don’t charge for lost, damaged or missing books. Library checkout goes on as usual. (Mr. Nonato edit: 5N has come ONE BOOK away from winning the popcorn party 4 times in a row! LET'S WIN SOME FREE POPCORN! All you need to do is be responsible and get your books back to the library. That's it. And we'll eat free popcorn. Let's get this done!) RECALL WEEK Book recall week is the week after, Nov. 30 - Dec. 4. Classes still come for their regular checkout times, but during this week, ALL BOOKS must be returned (not just overdue books) before more books can be checked out. HOLIDAY CHECKOUT After Dec. 4, anyone who has returned all previous checkouts can check out books for the break. Classes still come for their regular checkout times. The library will be open during the holiday. TALE OF DESPEREAUX PICNIC For anyone who has finished reading or listening to The Tale of Despereaux. This includes parents, teachers and students.
