We've watched a lot of interesting videos and had a lot of interesting discussion in the last couple of days discussing how borders have consequences for the communities they serve. Here's what we've watched so far: Here's a few by the guy that talks really, really fast. Big thanks to Ms. Bronwyn McNeill, who has volunteered to be 5N's class parent! Mikumi Tidbits:
And the rest:
Peace One Day:
...and another related video with more on Peace One Day's background. A huge thank-you to everyone that helped out with our bake sale on Friday - that's the students, the parents and people at home that helped with the baking, Ms. Thawer for coming in to lend a hand, those who made posters, teachers that helped plug the bake sale, students that got to buy treats....the list goes on. As announced in class, we made double the amount of money we made last year. I'm sure the Mikumi Village School kids will appreciate it. Homework:
I had said Unit 1 Math assessments would go home on Thursday. While they were marked and ready to be sent off, we didn't have the time to go over the assessment in class, and I like to go over the assessment before sending them home. We'll do this on Monday. Please make sure to have your parents sign the assessment, and return it to me the next day. The Everyday Math Unit 2 Family letter is now up on the Grade 5 year blog. You'll find the letter in JPG and PDF form there. Worth pointing out is the inclusion of a page of vocabulary words that your child should be familiar with by the end of the unit.
